MORE BLOCKS DONE

My relaxation time is making these blocks.

Patch as Patch Can
....WEEK 6......
what does that mean? These patches are put in so precisely to make the pattern, there seems to be no 'patch as can' about this block. Can you see I boobed on the dark fabric, I used the wrong side sometimes...Oh well!!

My Lucky Stars...WEEK 7
Oh yeah! With 69 pieces to this 8" - yes I stuck to that size crazy person -I cannot see anything 'lucky' in it, only how it went together - surprisingly easy!!

Morning Star 2 - WEEK 8
I really enjoyed making this little block, well 12" block, I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Fancy Stripes - WEEK 9
hmm more like cheaters Log Cabin really, this was sooo quick to make, it fairly flew through the sewing machine.

Bears Tracks... WEEK 10
A lovely block cos it is to do with Bears. I collect soft teddies or ornament's of bears so was very happy this was in the pack to make. Are they coming or going?

Chimneys & Cornerstones... WEEK 11
Not a lot to say of this cos it was another speedy one to make, love the secondary pattern you get when you link it with Courthouse Steps though. Nice one!

The Queen's X... WEEK 13
hee hee she was probably cross someone put those little triangles in her square!!!

Slowly but surely, I am catching up. Having fun whilst doing so too. :-)
Is this OK to put several in one posting or should they all be separate??

Running in Place

I feel like such a slacker! I can't believe how easy it is to fall behind with these blocks. I've got waaayy too many projects going on but I don't seem to be actually finishing anything.

Here are weeks 9(Fancy Stripes), 11(Chimneys & Cornerstones), 12(Leap Frog), and 13(The Queen's X) all done using that scrap bin full of brights. I decided to make most of the blocks from now on from these fabrics and then add borders to make them all fit together for an eventual quilt for my granddaughter. I wasn't crazy about any of these blocks but they did go together fairly easily.

The 12" block from week#10 was Bear Tracks, a pattern I thought would look good done in those hard-to-work-with homespun fabrics. I've been making pillows from these and they look great on an old church pew I have. I find that the homespun fabric is getting a little easier to manage but I spray starch the heck out of it whenever I use it!

For a brief moment I was all caught up on FBP and then Spring Fever hit me and I fell behind again! Yard and house clean-up took center stage. At least the windows are clean so it's not so dark in the sewing room now! With a wild flurry of sewing today, I hope to finally get really and truly caught up so by next Friday I can do the block at a leisurely pace. Happy Mom's Day to all the moms in the party.

The Queen "marks" the spiders (for the exterminators)!

Whew, have I been busy trying to catch up. It's a good thing I'm only making the 10 inch blocks in my Halloween theme quilt. So without further ado, here's my Queen's X block. This was so easy to make, I felt like I was cheating (go figure)!

All Caught Up

Between working to get my Harvest Sky quilt done before I left to go see my parents and then being down south visiting mom and dad I have gotten a little behind on my blocks. But not anymore. First I did this one. I was glad it was easy and went together quickly. This one was not so quick but I really like this block. I will do more of these in the future.
Last but not least I did this weeks block. I enjoyed using springy, Eastery fabrics.
I'm hoping it will help bring spring. It is snowing here again today. I would really like to get a few thing planted in my garden but the weather just does not want to cooperate.
Well, now I'm ready for Friday and another fun block party!

Waaaay Behind...

Since "Queen's X" is/was a small block, I went with the same fabrics as "Leap Frog"... blue bubbles, orange spots, and surfing frogs. The stripes are a fabric that Erin brought me from China last summer (she was in Shanghai to teach Summer School). I remembered, too late, that if I had turned half of the striped squares 90 degrees all the stripes in the HSTs would have been going the same direction... but I wasn't willing to swap them out. I used the directional stripes the same way on each of the diagonals, and I think it turned out OK anyway, Ya think?

Floribunda catches up

I fell behind last week, but now I'm back -- here's my Queen's X, in batiks again. Nice and easy...And this week's Cathy's Star, which took way too much concentration to keep the colors in the right places! It didn't help that I printed out the pattern in black & white so I had to keep guessing at the instructions (I did eventually make some notes about which color was which) Anyway, it's definitely not perfect construction but I kind of like the concept. Judy Martin has a lot of patterns on this theme in her "Knockout Blocks" book.

"X" marks the spot

Life is feeling a little overwhelming right now. I so want spring to be here, and we've had a significant amount of snow fall the last couple of days. Its depressing. Finding the energy to get to this block was all about following through on a commitment I made to everyone -- so thank you for being here and getting me off my backside :-)

The colour choices kind of reflect the mood I'm in -- dark and dreary. Pretty enough block, but I'm hoping that life will seem cheerier by this weekend and I'll be playing in bright loud fabrics for the next one! :-)

Giraffe's X

Made my block! I like this block... fun pattern. I wish I had used my lighter pink for the background, for more contrast between it and the medium pink. It's OK, though.

Kathie's Week 13 block

I took this week's block and added three extra rows to the top and bottom. That made it long enough to use as a quilt to donate to our local hospital for their newborn intensive care unit. That is one of the charity projects my quilt guild supports. It's a great way to get orphan blocks out of my house and into use for a good cause. I hope it brightens some family going through a medical crisis. Kathie
P.S. A few people have commented asking the size of these preemie quilts. We have been asked to make them about 18"x22". They can be an inch or two bigger in either direction, but no smaller than 18"x22". They are backed with flannel and have no batting. So I simply sew my top to the flannel (right sides together, leaving an opening for turning), turn right sides out and machine quilt.

Queen's X from leftover HSTs

Here's my version of Queen's X. I used the HSTs leftover from another block and switched the values to get diagonal lines both ways. The black is not a solid, although it looks like it in the picture. I made the four patches in the corners first, then put it together like a nine patch. I'm getting better with my accuracy every week, but more frustrated with the cutting directions in Quilter's Cache. I didn't follow them this week, but I don't see the point of cutting big rectangles into strips, and then into squares. I'd rather cut the strips and then cut the squares.

My Queen's X

I think I'm back! My cold is just about gone and I even had enough energy to finish this week's block! It's in batiks again because it is a 10-inch block. Yeah, I know. Not very original. This was an easy one, but don't tell anyone......It still took me three days to finish!

Queen's X's or Where is My Tiara?

So, this was a really fun block to make. I like the spring feel to it and would definitely do some more of these. It would make a elegant and very feminine quilt.

Have a great week everyone.

The Queen's X - nothing fancy

I'm glad that it was a nice and easy block this week since I came down with a nasty head cold on Fri and I haven't been feeling all that well. I didn't even go looking for anything fancy in my stash, I just went back to my original fabrics from the beginning and kept it simple. Now that I've got this done I think it's time for another nap.

Heather - Week 13

This is a nice, relaxing block. I decided to make it in summery shades of blue and yellow.

week 13

another week, another 29 pieces of fabric for a 10"block :-) This one is "Queen's X" and looks nice and easy. Honest.
