HOORAY - I AM UP TO DATE

I have been steaming away at my sewing machine this week, and it has paid off, because I am right up to date with all the blocks now, I just have to make the one that was loaded today. To say I have a BIG smile on my face is putting it mildly!!!!
Wyoming Valley - week 5

Cathy's Star - Week 14

Flyfoot - Week 18

Northumberland Star - Week 33

Hope of Hartford - Week 37

Castle in the Air - Week 35
I have no idea how I got it back to front

Fool's Square - Week 39

Double Quartet - Week 36

Nelson's Victory - Week 38

Mosaic 3 - Week 32

Blindman's Fancy - Week 43
This one drove me half nuts, what on earth is 11/16 all about cos it didn't fit for me!
I will give it a good press and hopefully it will lay flat, darn thing...

Game Cocks - Week 44

Flight of Swallows - Week 41
Yep I know the colours are not as the block on site, but my birds are
entirely surrounded by sky - that's my story and I am sticking to it!!!

Carolyn's Star - Week 46
This one and the other similar one are very pretty BUT -
never again...

That's my Baby - Week 47

Album Star - Week 40
I really like this block may use it again...

Cross in a Cross - Week 45

Baton Rouge Square - Week 42

Indian Square - Week 48
another really good block, proves that to KISS is the thing to do...

So there we are ladies, I am all up to date, bar today's block.

strange combinations...

Every time I think I'm catching up, it's Friday again! This is last weeks' block -- Cross in a Cross

And here is Album Star, in a very odd set of fabrics. I really should get in the habit of photographing my combinations before I cut into them! I thought the two lighter fabrics would be interesting in a subtle way, but... yech!

Heather's Week 40

I started choosing fabric for this block based on a Halloween novelty print that I wanted to use in the middle. After I picked out all the colors then the print didn't look right anymore. So I left it out. I don't think that I would have put these colors together without it for inspiration though.

Oh My Stars!

Hetty's warnings on this week's block made me wary. I read the directions carefully and realized that there are several bias edges to deal with and there-in lies the rub. So my strategy was to be extra super careful handling the pieces, especially when pressing. It paid off because my block turned out well on the first try. The itty, bitty triangles are a pain to work with and it almost felt like I was making a miniature block in the beginning. The cute animal cracker print is an ancient scrap and I wasn't able to fussy cut it because of the way the animals are printed. It will make another colorful addition to the Grandson quilt I'm assembling from the smaller FBP blocks.

My Nemesis

I'm curious. Has anyone else done this block yet? Are you having trouble with it? It just about drove me crazy! The instructions on the quilter's cache did not work for me. I spent a couple of hours on this thing last night and all I got for my efforts were units that were too small, a crooked block and a broken finger nail!
This morning I tried it again, but used my own measurements this time. It worked out okay. The block measures 8 and 1/2 inches, so I guess it's right. But I am not exactly sane anymore!

week 40

So how's everyone holding up? I've seen a few people start to put their blocks to use, how about the rest of you? Christmas is coming -- maybe you have a scrappy sampler quilt top just lurking around in your block pile as a gift....

Please remember the point of this challenge is to challenge yourself -- there's not some prize for doing every block other than the satisfaction of it! If you want to resize, modify, or skip a weekly challenge block do so -- in the end its you that's going to have all the blocks to deal with, so they should suit you :-) I know I've made some personal decisions about doing some of the blocks so I don't simply accumulate orphans that sit for the next 10 years!

All that said, this week's block is a versatile 8" star block called Album Star on the quilter's cache site. Hope you have fun with it...
