Don't Sew at 1:00 A.M.

I am trying to catch up... and I want to make a few blocks on the light side, to balance out my very bright ones. But I don't think I got it right with this one. That's what happens when one sews at 1:00 a.m. and doesn't have a clear-thinking brain for fabric choosing.
I'm still 3 or 4 blocks behind but will try to work on them when I'm wide awake.

Some Kinda Foot !

I really didn't like the "FlyFoot" pattern , so I didn't do it...exactly . The pattern probably looks really good in a "multiples" setting, where the pinwheel legs would join up to create a secondary pattern, but I didn't like the way the single block looked at all. I wanted to use one of my Victorian florals, so I used a really bland beige for the focus and turned the corners in on themselves... sort of looks like a fortune cookie, I thought.

This was supposed to be "Cross and Crown", but I changed it out a bit; I think it looks a bit like a Celtic Cross. Since I added the extra blue border, the chain kind of looses itself and the Stone Henge-y gold parts kind of pop out. Part of that is beause I reversed the blue and gold sides strips on the sides as well. It really is amazing what we can do when we are not paying very close attention to directions, isn't it??? LOL.

Weeks 16 and 18

Well I got week 16 done and I really like how it turned out. It was a fun block. Week 18 on the other had a little hiccup. I just drew the block out on a piece of paper and took it to the sew room. I didn't shade any areas to let me know where lights and darks or just different fabrics should go. So whooops. I still like the block. And maybe I will go back and do it with the shades of fabric in the right places. Got to find some time. If you have any extra send it my way. I always seem to be in short supply.

Dakota Gold

I enjoyed making this block. It's easy, yet has an interesting look to it.

caught up again!

Heeere's Betty! I'm not thrilled with the way my "random" arrangement of the background worked out -- but I didn't care enough to take it all apart and re-sew.
The Dakota Gold was fun. I did put this one together wrong the first time (the points were pointing out instead of in) so I did rip. The green fabric is actually much greener than the photo shows --
And, here are some more cherries. I'm glad to be home and getting some sewing in!

late, but done!

Last week's Friday Block Challenge was just not catching my imagination... Other things in life seemed to push getting to it aside, and this morning when I decided I needed to catch up, it still left me "blah". So I changed the plan :-)

Last week's block was supposed to be "Dakota Gold". The block I made was basically the resulting corner block when you put four "Dakota Gold" blocks together. :-) I left out the "framing" strips, 'cause they were really quite boring to me. And I'm happy. I did something like last week's challenge, I got it done, and its beautiful -- a block I like. Challenge met.

now onto this week's block....

Kathie's Week 16

I agree with many other comments on this block - that is was easy to do, and I like the result. As Hetty said, it would look very nice as a whole quilt with the corner blocks forming a star. I added a border on mine and intend to turn it into a pillow. I hope I don't get demerits for being a day late in posting it!

Playing Catch-Up

Cathy's Star

Week #14 really challenged my piecing skills. I love the block but, gollleee geee, it sure was tedious. Keeping those little pieces turned the right direction required too much concentration.

Bouncing Betty

Week #15 goes into the 8" pile with the brights for a future quilt for grandaughter Keira. That one was fun & easy.

Dakota Gold

This week's block was also pretty easy but I chose to do it in homespuns. Stretchy stuff!! I am getting better at sewing with that fabric and I love the old fashioned look. Doing an occassional block like this may be the only way I will ever get enough blocks done for an entire quilt.

Since I was away for 5 weeks, I actually have 4 more blocks to try. I will probably do them eventually but for now I'm considering myself caught-up.

My Dakota Gold

I can't believe it's week 16 already! This means I have at least 16 blocks made - some I made two of so I actually have more. And they are all interesting! If I hadn't been doing this Party thing I wouldn't have any blocks at all!

This is my Dakota Gold block for this week. Because it is a 10in. block, I used batiks again. I wanted to use some gold fabric, but this is the closest I got. I liked this block. It was fast and easy. I think this block would made a lovely quilt. Then the corner units would show up like stars. I love blocks that, when put together, create a secondary pattern.

This one went together nice and easy. I can't believe we are on week 16, boy the time sure does fly.

Heather - week 16

This block immediately reminded me of flowers. I'm not sure I like the flower print in the background because it might make it too busy.

I Loved Making This Block

It went together rather nicely and I like the look to this block. I have already cut out some more of the pieces so we shall see what comes of this one.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

This week's block, "Dakota Gold" is a 10" one with four sections and sashing. The instructions call for making half square triangles from squares, so not all those bais seams from last week's block :-) Other than getting the right colour pair of half square triangles turned the right way in each spot it looks quite straight forward.

At least that's my hope... :-)
