I'M STILL HERE

Bet you all thought I had forgotten about these blocks. No way! I have been a bit busy on other things. I am now in catch up mode again. I pulled a load of fabric from the cupboard at cut it into strips which I thought were the most popular sizes used for these blocks and have been gaily chopping away. Here are the results so far....

Here are my strips...

and off I go...
Queen Charlotte's Crown - Week 31

Hearth and Home - Week 30

Mrs Morgan's Choice - Week 29

1930's Square - Week 24

1941 Nine Patch - Week 23

Z Cross - Week 26

Leap Frog - Week 12

Rally Round - Week 34

Envelope Motif - Week 28

Windmill 2 - Week 27

Rotunda - Week 3

Triangle Chain - Week 25

You may notice slight differences in my blocks and the printed ones on Quilter's Cache, I just decided I would do them a quicker way from some of the instructions given!!! Oops! Sometimes I went wrong too! Oh well, can't be helped, I am getting there though...off I go to make more of the backlog blocks.

Whewww! All Caught Up.

Well, except for the new one QP posted yesterday. It looks like a good one so I'll get on it this weekend. But I did get all the others done. So here you go....

Week #31~Queen Charlottes Crown. I loved Hetty's history lesson. It made this block all the more interesting. Done in homespuns.

Week #30~ Hearth & Home. This one looked so easy I didn't even bother to read the directions but just used 2 & 1/2" strips & squares I already had cut.

Week #29~ Mrs. Morgans Choice. I didn't care for the design of this block so I copied Kathie. Sometimes it seems like Quilter's Catch makes these blocks more difficult than they need to be by using all those little pieces when a larger piece would do just as well.

Week #28~ Envelope Motif. What's with that name? It look's like a star pattern of some sort. Shouldn't it be Star Something-or-other?

Week #27~Windmill 2. This was a smaller block so I used those bright fabrics for my grandbaby quilt. I've got some multi-colored polka dot fabric I will sash it with to tie the blocks together. Jackson is going to need sunglasses when he's laying on it.

Week #26~Z Cross. I actually did this block back in June but apparently I never posted it here. I was quite intrigued by the secondary pattern created with multiple blocks and actually put together a small wall hanging.

The wall hanging has a nice primative look to it so I am quilting it with that heavy perle cotton and using a big stitch. I've never tried that before and I'm having a heck of a time. I'm not sure how to bury the knots. I may do some machine quilting to finish it up because the heavy perle cotton stuff is a real pain to stitch with.

Kathie's Week 27

This block was easy to do, and I think it would look great in many different types of fabric - reproduction, 30's, Amish solids, etc.

The last two weeks

I made the purple block last week but for some reason never got around to posting.

PICT0044

I thought I was being smart this week and making the block out of the same fabric that I made the other 8 inch blocks. It wasn't until it was all done that I realized that I actually made it out of the same fabric as the 9 inch blocks. Whoops.

my windmill

I enlarged this pattern to 12" and then decided to construct it a bit differently -- I made the pinwheel in the middle and then added the four "saltbox" corners. It's just a smidge smaller than 12.5" but I think it will work, but I don't find it too exciting...

Blowing in the Windmill 2

I love windmills. But not this block! I hated all those bias edges! I didn't finger press or use my iron and still everything was out of line. Oh, well. It's only an 8-inch block. It's finished and that's all that counts.

Week 27 - Windmill 2

I was on a roll this afternoon! Here is the third block I made while my peace was uninterruped. My teenage son is spending time with his new girlfriend and my daughter is busy with holiday research from uni. Bliss!!

don't faint!

It's utterly amazing -- I did this week's block challenge the day it was issued! I have no idea what came over me, but done it is :-)

I followed the direction from Quilter's Cache, and was extra careful with the bias edges. I didn't finger press, only setting a hot iron down on the seams when absolutely necessary, never moving it while down... and it worked!! After cutting the pieces I didn't trim anywhere during or after the construction process... well, OK I lie a little -- I trimmed off the "extra bits" from sewing diagonal seams where they poked out along the edges when I was all done the block, but otherwise I didn't trim at all -- and the block is the size it was supposed to be; and the points worked; and it didn't take forever :-)

week 27

Another Friday, another challenge block :-)

This one is another small one, only 8", so I imagine there'll be a number of people who re-size it. I may be amongst them, though if I do I think I'll see if I can find something to enhance the pattern and keep it from being too chunky... hmmmm

Regardless of what you decide to do with this week's block, the starting spot for the challenge is "Windmill 2"
