HOORAY - I AM UP TO DATE

I have been steaming away at my sewing machine this week, and it has paid off, because I am right up to date with all the blocks now, I just have to make the one that was loaded today. To say I have a BIG smile on my face is putting it mildly!!!!

I will give it a good press and hopefully it will lay flat, darn thing...

still catching up...

Here are three more blocks for the collection:Flight of Swallows -- sort of boring! I thought about using 4 different dark fabrics but then got too lazy to choose more than one.
Double Quartet -- I do like this one despite the slightly odd combination of fabrics.
Baton Rouge Square -- sort of an odd design, I think!

Admiral Lord Nelson, his Quartet, and his Castle...

Admiral Lord Nelson didn't always have an easy time of his victories, and neither did I with this block. Having enough of that perfect "blood red" eluded me, so I made-do by using up some very tiny scraps. Not too bad, I think - the photo isn't very straight... it was/ is pretty windy today. All together an easy, clean-looking block. Could make a nice mannish quilt.

Next was the "Double Quartet" from three weeks ago; when I was in Palm Desert with my Dad. What did I learn from this block? Well, I learned NOT to sew when you are mad at somebody... you just mess up and have to re-do your block! I really liked the reddish chinz flower print that I used for the pinwheel, and the middle-green print in the corners is one of my very favorite colors ever... so I wasn't going to let this one go! Second go it came out a bit straighter, and I'm not as PO'd as I was earlier in the day. I guess some solitude was in order. (But it is still wonky!)

This last one is "Castles in the Air" from several weeks ago. When I took the photo for the FBP blog, I discovered that I had rotated two of the outside blues and needed to go play with "Jack" (yeah, thanks... "Jack the Ripper") for a bit. This block just had to be right as it will be one of the pillows that I'm making for my brother's children (out of his trademark Hawaiian Shirt Fabrics). His birthday would have been on the 27th - actually it still is, he's just not here to celebrate it with us , and I wanted to have the pillows finished for this year's birthday. I need to get a quiltin' on those puppies! This one came out well, I think.

Now I've only got 26 more FBPs to catch up with... I can do this!!!

Week #36 Double Quartet of Cats

Easy peasey. Another block for Jackson's quilt. Laurel Burch cats in purple. I really want to make a tote bag out of this fabric.

More than a Double Quartet

I'm back after a long absence, but I've been watching the rest of you get better and better at your precision piecing. Here's my version of Double Quartet, using a marbled fabric. I already had the HST cut from another block, so I made the block 8 inches, and then added a border to bring it up to 12 inches to fit into a challenge quilt of 12 inch squares. Only one point cut off, so my precision piecing skills aren't as rusty as I feared.

Zebras

I resized this block to 12 inches. I had my black and white and orange/yellow fabrics out so I decided to use those colors with zebras in the corner.

Butterflies in the Double Quartet

I'm back at the party with this week's block. I went through my box of pre-cut squares and found some colourful butterflies and a vibrant orange. Since the background of the butterflies was black I decided to go with a spotted black for the third colour. Well you sure can't miss this block and it was a nice easy one to get back into the game. I still have 6 blocks to do from various weeks and hopefully will get them done before the end of the year. Things are going to be a bit busy for the next little while and I figured I'm just going to move forward with the FBP blocks and when I have time I will go back and do the ones I've missed.

DQ in Pink and Purple

My Double Quartet is done. It's an easy and quick block. It took me all of 30 minutes from beginning to end, including the photo. I made it in the 8-inch size, but I might make another as a 12-inch block. I used all scraps except the background fabric which came from my stash.

week 36

"Double Quartet", this week's block loks so easy at this point in the year.... just a few HST and a pinwheel! It is a small block, only 8", but otherwise very straight forward -- should help those who've been playing catch up to stay caught up this week :-)
