I'M STILL HERE

Bet you all thought I had forgotten about these blocks. No way! I have been a bit busy on other things. I am now in catch up mode again. I pulled a load of fabric from the cupboard at cut it into strips which I thought were the most popular sizes used for these blocks and have been gaily chopping away. Here are the results so far....

Here are my strips...

and off I go...
Queen Charlotte's Crown - Week 31

Hearth and Home - Week 30

Mrs Morgan's Choice - Week 29

1930's Square - Week 24

1941 Nine Patch - Week 23

Z Cross - Week 26

Leap Frog - Week 12

Rally Round - Week 34

Envelope Motif - Week 28

Windmill 2 - Week 27

Rotunda - Week 3

Triangle Chain - Week 25

You may notice slight differences in my blocks and the printed ones on Quilter's Cache, I just decided I would do them a quicker way from some of the instructions given!!! Oops! Sometimes I went wrong too! Oh well, can't be helped, I am getting there though...off I go to make more of the backlog blocks.

A Crappy Fool's Square and the Cat's Meow Envelope Motif

Here is my crappy Fool's Square. I had a hard time with this one, I even had to rip apart the 9-patch and re-do it. When I was putting the final sections together none of the points were aligning and by this time I had ripped apart so many seams I had enough. It's done, and it's not a favorite. I suspect part of my problem is that I'm recovering from a nasty migraine headache that hit me yesterday, and even though the headache finally left this afternoon, I'm still feeling a bit out of sorts.

Even with the trouble I had with this week's block I decide to sew up week 28 Envelope Motif and I had much better luck with it. A few of the points are slightly off, but over all it went together much better and no ripping out of seams.

Lord Nelson Conquered and Resurrection

PICT0010

Riley is showing how to make sure Lord Nelson doesn't escape the photography session. I think I've made this before for a swap of some kind but I can't remember. Nice and simple block though.

Speaking of nice and simple, the other block is Envelope Motif from week 28. I declared it dead to me at the time because I was having all kinds of problems making the units the right size. Today though it was well behaved and gave me no problems whatsoever.

Whewww! All Caught Up.

Well, except for the new one QP posted yesterday. It looks like a good one so I'll get on it this weekend. But I did get all the others done. So here you go....

Week #31~Queen Charlottes Crown. I loved Hetty's history lesson. It made this block all the more interesting. Done in homespuns.

Week #30~ Hearth & Home. This one looked so easy I didn't even bother to read the directions but just used 2 & 1/2" strips & squares I already had cut.

Week #29~ Mrs. Morgans Choice. I didn't care for the design of this block so I copied Kathie. Sometimes it seems like Quilter's Catch makes these blocks more difficult than they need to be by using all those little pieces when a larger piece would do just as well.

Week #28~ Envelope Motif. What's with that name? It look's like a star pattern of some sort. Shouldn't it be Star Something-or-other?

Week #27~Windmill 2. This was a smaller block so I used those bright fabrics for my grandbaby quilt. I've got some multi-colored polka dot fabric I will sash it with to tie the blocks together. Jackson is going to need sunglasses when he's laying on it.

Week #26~Z Cross. I actually did this block back in June but apparently I never posted it here. I was quite intrigued by the secondary pattern created with multiple blocks and actually put together a small wall hanging.

The wall hanging has a nice primative look to it so I am quilting it with that heavy perle cotton and using a big stitch. I've never tried that before and I'm having a heck of a time. I'm not sure how to bury the knots. I may do some machine quilting to finish it up because the heavy perle cotton stuff is a real pain to stitch with.

Giraffe in an Envelope

Catching up slowly but surely.. here is my Week 28 block.

Sunday, August 9, 2009

two more...

Finally almost caught up again -- this is Envelope Motif
And this week's Mosaic 3. Not too excited about either of these...

The only one I have left to do is Mrs. Morgan's Choice -- those funny windmill blades. I really don't like that one at all and it might be the one that gets omitted from the otherwise full set!

Week 28 - Envelope Motif

Well this block started out being enjoyable, but I was disappointed at how much wastage there was (loads of little triangles) once I had cut it up. I thought I had enough of the dark red but discovered very quickly that I didn't. So, cutting a long story very short, I had to trim it down until I had enough to fit. My finished block was only 9 1/2" instead of the 12 1/2". And my points were lousy.
But its finished!!

Envelope Motif - Week 28

I really like this block. The turquoise fabric was from my stash, but the batiks were purchased yesterday. I got them on sale. They were just sitting there beside my machine, calling to me, and I was dying to use them. So I did!

Kathie's Week 28

I can't believe I am the first poster this week. My husband slept in this morning, so I slipped out of bed and got some early morning sewing done. This block makes me happy because I was able to use up this scrap of dogwood fabric. I hate it when the last of a much loved piece is used, but love it when something not-so-loved is out of the stash!

week 28

This week's block is a star, though Quilter's Cache seems to call it Envelope Motif for some unfathomable reason... Another 12" block, so back to some good sized pieces again :-)
