I'M STILL HERE

Bet you all thought I had forgotten about these blocks. No way! I have been a bit busy on other things. I am now in catch up mode again. I pulled a load of fabric from the cupboard at cut it into strips which I thought were the most popular sizes used for these blocks and have been gaily chopping away. Here are the results so far....

Here are my strips...

and off I go...
Queen Charlotte's Crown - Week 31

Hearth and Home - Week 30

Mrs Morgan's Choice - Week 29

1930's Square - Week 24

1941 Nine Patch - Week 23

Z Cross - Week 26

Leap Frog - Week 12

Rally Round - Week 34

Envelope Motif - Week 28

Windmill 2 - Week 27

Rotunda - Week 3

Triangle Chain - Week 25

You may notice slight differences in my blocks and the printed ones on Quilter's Cache, I just decided I would do them a quicker way from some of the instructions given!!! Oops! Sometimes I went wrong too! Oh well, can't be helped, I am getting there though...off I go to make more of the backlog blocks.

Whewww! All Caught Up.

Well, except for the new one QP posted yesterday. It looks like a good one so I'll get on it this weekend. But I did get all the others done. So here you go....

Week #31~Queen Charlottes Crown. I loved Hetty's history lesson. It made this block all the more interesting. Done in homespuns.

Week #30~ Hearth & Home. This one looked so easy I didn't even bother to read the directions but just used 2 & 1/2" strips & squares I already had cut.

Week #29~ Mrs. Morgans Choice. I didn't care for the design of this block so I copied Kathie. Sometimes it seems like Quilter's Catch makes these blocks more difficult than they need to be by using all those little pieces when a larger piece would do just as well.

Week #28~ Envelope Motif. What's with that name? It look's like a star pattern of some sort. Shouldn't it be Star Something-or-other?

Week #27~Windmill 2. This was a smaller block so I used those bright fabrics for my grandbaby quilt. I've got some multi-colored polka dot fabric I will sash it with to tie the blocks together. Jackson is going to need sunglasses when he's laying on it.

Week #26~Z Cross. I actually did this block back in June but apparently I never posted it here. I was quite intrigued by the secondary pattern created with multiple blocks and actually put together a small wall hanging.

The wall hanging has a nice primative look to it so I am quilting it with that heavy perle cotton and using a big stitch. I've never tried that before and I'm having a heck of a time. I'm not sure how to bury the knots. I may do some machine quilting to finish it up because the heavy perle cotton stuff is a real pain to stitch with.

The last two weeks

I made the purple block last week but for some reason never got around to posting.

PICT0044

I thought I was being smart this week and making the block out of the same fabric that I made the other 8 inch blocks. It wasn't until it was all done that I realized that I actually made it out of the same fabric as the 9 inch blocks. Whoops.

Week 26 - Z Cross

I wasn't expecting this one to be a favourite, but once I had chosen the colours I really enjoyed making it. I only just had enough of the swirly brown/gold fabric to cut out the corner triangles - I'm glad I did as I think having the same fabric for the corners and the centre would make it look a bit flat.

Zo Diz iz Z Cross

I thought I'd better show you my block for week 26 now that QP has already posted the one for week 27. I finished this block a few days ago, but haven't had time to take a photo and post about it. I wish I had used a nicer fabric for the cross. Then I think I might like it better.

Kathie's Week 26

I like this week's block, but not my fabric choices. The green pinwheel gets lost in the lilac print. It would look better with a darker shade of green. Ah well, it's just one block, not a whole quilt, so no big loss.

week 26

Week 26's block is done, with time to spare :-) Went together like a charm, and turned out rather cute I think...

I did notice when viewing the picture as a thumbnail on my computer the yellow forms a larger pinwheelish shape all of its own, with the "Z cross" part an interesting centre... Wish it didn't disappear before my eyes when the picture is larger...

This block should be called Maddening Cross

First I ended up cutting several of the pieces of fabric several times over because for what ever reason my mind wasn't paying attention and I cut the squares too small - ARG!!!! I had my HSTs finished, the block was all laid out, and it was correct. But as I picked up the pieces, I managed to flip some of them and sew them wrong. So out came the seam ripper several times but I finally got the darn thing done. It does look good in my fabrics that I'm doing all my 10" blocks in, but after all that I decided that was enough sewing for one day. I think I'll just go and read a quilting magazine and relax for the rest of the day. I hope the rest of you have better luck.

back to batiks

You would not believe how many pieces I sewed together in the wrong places on these two blocks. Honestly, I only had one (pint) of beer beforehand! And I didn't realize that the first one was going to come out at 9" (rather than 10") so I got totally confused halfway through when I went to square up one of the sections.

Anyway, aside from that I like the triangle chain a lot. This week's "z", not so much...

week 26

This week, the challenge is to make a "Z cross" block...
