Hourglass

This is week 50. It's funny, but I started out the year with really bright colors and fun combinations, and now I'm ending the year with kind of blah stuff that I wish I had done differently. Did I not learn anything this year?? Weird.

Oh, I made mine a 12-incher.

Giraffe at a Crossroads

OK, where did I get this pattern? I printed it up.. I thought I had printed one of our weeks' patterns, but now I can't find it. I guess I'll count it as my mixed up Cross in a Cross or whatever. This one is called Crossroads 2. I must have been sleep walking when I printed this, because now I can't find it on the list! Too weird.

Flight of the Giraffes

Week 41.. took me a long time to make this one!

Giraffe's Victory

Here is week 38. I made this and week 41 for Sunshine (quilts for kids). Another quilter collects blocks and will be combining these with many others to make some knock-out quilts. Week 38 was quick to put together. Week 41 was NOT. I won't be making another week 41 any time soon. Too putzy for my liking. I like 'em quick and easy.

Week 36 Resized

I decided to make the week 36 block into a 12-incher.

Week 35, Sort of

Here's my week 35 block that I messed up by not paying attention. I made some parts that aren't even part of the pattern, and then I made the right parts but with the wrong fabric pieces. So it's a very loose interpretation of the Castes in the Air pattern.

Giraffe's Mosaic 3

I made week 32, Mosaic 3, a little bit by accident. I had a few leftover HSTs and started playing with settings... and then I realized that I was coming very close to what Mosaic 3 looked like.. so I made it and counted it. Originally I was going to upsize Mosaic 3 to a 12-incher, but with my leftover pieces it was a perfect 8-incher as the pattern calls for.

I am calling myself caught up. Whew! Even though I haven't made all the blocks, I have made all I'm going to (my new plan is only to make the 12-inch patterns)... this week's just takes too much thought, so I'm going to skip it.

Mrs. Giraffe's Choice

I'm not crazy about this block, both the way it is designed and the way I changed it by filling in the background. And for some unknown reason it seemed to take me way longer to make this one than seemed reasonable. And then my middle points are off. Oh, well... on to the next one.

Catching up slowly but surely.. here is my Week 28 block.

1930's Square

Eats up some time, but it's a cute block.

Week 24: 1930's Square

Starflower

This one was sort of fun, but my yellow doesn't show up as well as I would like.

Week 22: Starflower

Hayes Corner

This is an unusual block by itself, but it makes a gorgeous quilt when a bunch of them are put together. I'll see if I can find the quilt I made several years ago from this pattern. For now, here's the one I did today:

Week 21, Hayes' Corner

Whew! Time to Catch Up, Maybe...

I finally have some sewing time!!! Hooray! But how the h--- did you get to Week 32 while I was busy with other stuff (including my son's wedding - which was way fun, by the way)??? I thought I was cool getting a few done today. Didn't know how far behind I had become.

Well, it's fun to try to catch up, I guess. I'm going to post them each separately (I only did 4, don't worry) just so the tags work properly for each one. Here goes..

Week 20 - Pinwheel #4! I made it a 12-incher instead of the 8 inches as per directions.

Decision

blocks I made in 2007 for a "school" exchange

I have made a decision that might make it easier for me to keep up my enthusiasm for the Friday Block Party. You might remember that in the beginning I talked about BOMs. I never do them, because I hate working with deadlines and feeling like I have to keep up. So it was a real surprise to me that I had taken on this weekly block party when monthly blocks drive me crazy.

Well, after the first 20 weeks, I have learned something about the blocks and myself. If I keep trying to do them every week, I'll go nuts. So... I have decided only to make the blocks that are 12-inchers, or that are very easy to adapt into 12 inches. That'll give me a break when the current block is an 8-inch, 10-inch, etc... and with an occasional break, I think I'll be able to keep doing this for a while.
Therefore, I am declaring myself all caught up! I didn't make block #20 (this week's block) and I'm not going to, because it's not a 12-incher. I'm happy with what I decided to do!
I'm posting a random picture, just so this post isn't all boring words. (I'm a visual learner. Are you?)

Almost Caught Up!

This feels great! I'm getting caught up! Tonight I made blocks 17 and 19. All I have left to make is this week's block, #20. (I decided not to make week 14, that crazy star within a star. I'm too lazy.)

Crooked and Done

Crooked and done is better than perfect. Right? I finally made Week 17's block. When I trimmed the inner block thingy, I got it crooked! Oh, well. So I'm human. On to the next block!

Don't Sew at 1:00 A.M.

I am trying to catch up... and I want to make a few blocks on the light side, to balance out my very bright ones. But I don't think I got it right with this one. That's what happens when one sews at 1:00 a.m. and doesn't have a clear-thinking brain for fabric choosing.
I'm still 3 or 4 blocks behind but will try to work on them when I'm wide awake.

18 Re-arranged

I didn't really like this block, so I took mine apart and arranged my geese differently. I like it a little better now. I think I might be getting tired of pink! But I want to keep going and see if I get a huge quilt out of all of these blocks at the end of the year. Will I still like my blocks when I have over 50 of them in pink???
