I scrapped the block I was working on and just practiced keeping my points pointy and came up with this VERY creative and artsy block which I binded in red to make a mat for my little Valentine's Day decorations. I think it is so cute.

So, this block was not a waste at all. I am learning to deal with things that frustrate me and seeking answers. I thank you all for your words of encouragement and love. It means so much to me.

I will catch up on this current block next weekend, after my little trip to the quilt shop!!!
Love Friday Block Party and love all of you,
Marlene

what a great little piece you created -- not only got to practise something you wanted to understand better but got a new Valentine trinket out of it! Oh so smart :-)
Cute little valentine quilt! Good for you for practicing half square triangles! I like the video, but she uses a lot of gadgets that are not necessary. I always cut my squares a bit bigger than called for. I draw the line on the fabric with a pencil and a ruler. Then I sew on either side of the line using my quarter inch foot. I then use my ordinary ruler, putting the 45 degree line in the seam to cut the piece down to the right size.
Yeah, uummmm...I was sewing right down the middle of the two squares, NOT a quarter inch away from the center...
WOW, light bulb moment. I was blond in a former life, plus I am a visual learner, not a written word learner!!!
$3 for the quick quarter ruler is charper than a new foot for right now, and will help me to commit to memory the measurements. I like to follow lines. LOL
Love the creative way you used your first block attempt! This is what quilting is supposed to be -- fun and creative! Don't ever strive for perfection. It's not attainable. Just have fun and love what you are doing!!
I'm so glad that you didn't give up and you have yourself a wonderful little Valentine's Day decoration. You deserve an A+++ for effort and perseverance. Your points are looking really great.
I'm for anything that makes one's life easier, and if a gadget does it, great. I do like that revolving cutting board she had in the video. I can see that coming in handy.
I love your little Valentine block. It looks so cute with your Valentine things. Way to keep at the hst. You will beat them yet.
Such a cute quilt mat. Fits right in with your decorations. I have the rotary mat and love it.
