I finally did it! It's a good thing I went to bed last night instead of starting this block. It wasn't until I was lying in bed this morning that I realized the 'geese' parts of Dutchman's puzzle all had to be a predominant colour and all the other pieces a background colour.
So I made the 5 1/4 pieces out of blues and all the rest out of the yellow.
I really like this new method! Waiting with interest to see what others have to say about it.

Very interesting. It's the same layout as the one below, but how different the two look because of the placement of colours. Here I can see the blades of the windmill.
