I know the directions called for lots of half-square triangles, but I hate having all those extra seams when they aren't necessary. I constructed mine without any HST. I made 4 flying geese for the middle pinwheel, 4 flying geese for part of the border, 6 2.5x4.5 rectangles and 2 2.5x8.5 rectanges with triangles sewn on each end. I wanted the windmill in the middle to stand out, so I altered the design to fill in all the middle with the seashell fabric.
