Nelson got confused on the way to victory

I made this block twice, using pre-cut 3.5 inch squares and just cutting the larger squares for the centre pinwheels. In the one at the left, I got mixed up between the time I read the directions and cut the fabric, so I have light/dark values in the pinwheel. I made another one with equal values in the pinwheel. Which do you prefer? I like both.

I pieced these first as four-patches, then as the bigger four patches. I realized along the way that each four patch is really a modified attic window, so if you're good at mitering corners, you might want to try constructing it that way and saving on some seaming. Of course, since I was in the scrap basket for this project, I didn't do it that way.

oooo thanks for the tip of the four patches being attic windows.... hadn't really "seen" that, but may very wel approache the project that way! :-)

The red and blue with white in the corner has a very different "feel" to me than the other -- Can imagine it being very effective in an "americana" quilt...

It's interesting how the placement of the light coloured squares changes the perspective of the block.
