Decision

blocks I made in 2007 for a "school" exchange

I have made a decision that might make it easier for me to keep up my enthusiasm for the Friday Block Party. You might remember that in the beginning I talked about BOMs. I never do them, because I hate working with deadlines and feeling like I have to keep up. So it was a real surprise to me that I had taken on this weekly block party when monthly blocks drive me crazy.

Well, after the first 20 weeks, I have learned something about the blocks and myself. If I keep trying to do them every week, I'll go nuts. So... I have decided only to make the blocks that are 12-inchers, or that are very easy to adapt into 12 inches. That'll give me a break when the current block is an 8-inch, 10-inch, etc... and with an occasional break, I think I'll be able to keep doing this for a while.
Therefore, I am declaring myself all caught up! I didn't make block #20 (this week's block) and I'm not going to, because it's not a 12-incher. I'm happy with what I decided to do!
I'm posting a random picture, just so this post isn't all boring words. (I'm a visual learner. Are you?)

I know how you feel. I've been making the 12 inch blocks too, and have skipped a bunch of weeks, mostly because it took me awhile to get back on track due to a death in the family. I'm thinking this is a voluntary exercise, unlike a BOM where you have to make it by a certain day or pay more or whatever the rules are. I've been admiring your catchup work this weekend!

Thanks! Yes, it's fun that this project is more flexible than a BOM for which one pays.

That is the beauty of this group, you do what you can and there is no one judging.

Your work is really well done, Carol... and I think we all realize that we all have lives outside of FBP. As Vicki said, we aren't meant to feel lots of pressure to complete any/all of these! As Donna said in her invitation post, thanks for "Playing Along " - I'm glad you decided not to let it become a duty... FBP is meant to be fun! Joy in your decision, and hugs all around!

what works for you is absolutely the best thing for you to do! I created this as a weekly party becuase I need the discipline of regular close deadlines to ensure I get to things and don't just procrastinate it til never :-) but what I need is not what everyone else does! :-)

Do what you can, when you can. Do all or as many blocks as you like. It's your decision. That's the beauty of this Party!
