Queen's X from leftover HSTs

Here's my version of Queen's X. I used the HSTs leftover from another block and switched the values to get diagonal lines both ways. The black is not a solid, although it looks like it in the picture. I made the four patches in the corners first, then put it together like a nine patch. I'm getting better with my accuracy every week, but more frustrated with the cutting directions in Quilter's Cache. I didn't follow them this week, but I don't see the point of cutting big rectangles into strips, and then into squares. I'd rather cut the strips and then cut the squares.

Had to smile at your comment re cutting directions -- I didn't even look at them this week, just went with the final measurements of the little squares and made it up! :-)

I just figured if they were speed stitched, they were 2 7/8"..which they were thankfully.

Really like your interpretation on this block.

I like what you did to get the diagonal lines to come out. I also hear you on the instructions on Quilter's Cache. I read it to see what the final size of say the HSTs are suppose to be and then do my own thing. Or if I need 4 squares or rectangles of a certain size I may have a scrap that I can cut those from that and it doesn't look anything like her piece of fabric.

I love your marbled fabrics, Brenda... do you do them yourself?
Totally agree with you on QC's directions! Why the extra cutting? Unless she's got a sewing table and cutting board as small as mine, you really don't need to cut the big rectangles. DO wish I could locate the box that has the big matt!!!

I bought the marbled fabric at a local discount store. $6 for a metre!

I have never followed the cutting directions. I like you find them frustrating.
