I decided to go scrappy with this one to see if I could pull it off. I dug into my 3.5 inch square box and came up with eight red prints and three medium blues. That made my HSTs only 3 1/8 inches and the whole square is 11 1/4 unfinished. I'm with the Heather-- I don't see the point of the HSTs for every block. I like the effect, but I'd rather make a whole quilt of larger HSTs than one block with 16 of them. But my precision is improving, and I don't hate HSTs as much as I used to. What did the rest of you do to eliminate bulky seams on this one?

like you I think there must be a better plan for the block than HST, but must admit to liking the end pattern... I had some seam bulk problems which caused slippage in the final seams, but mostly found I could compensate by pressing them open....
Yes...you hit the mark with this one and it turned out great.
I tried very hard to keep the bulk in the seams to a minimum. But it wasn't easy. Putting the block together in rows helped. Love your colours!
