I'M STILL HERE

Bet you all thought I had forgotten about these blocks. No way! I have been a bit busy on other things. I am now in catch up mode again. I pulled a load of fabric from the cupboard at cut it into strips which I thought were the most popular sizes used for these blocks and have been gaily chopping away. Here are the results so far....

You may notice slight differences in my blocks and the printed ones on Quilter's Cache, I just decided I would do them a quicker way from some of the instructions given!!! Oops! Sometimes I went wrong too! Oh well, can't be helped, I am getting there though...off I go to make more of the backlog blocks.

Whewww! All Caught Up.

Well, except for the new one QP posted yesterday. It looks like a good one so I'll get on it this weekend. But I did get all the others done. So here you go....

Week #31~Queen Charlottes Crown. I loved Hetty's history lesson. It made this block all the more interesting. Done in homespuns.


Week #30~ Hearth & Home. This one looked so easy I didn't even bother to read the directions but just used 2 & 1/2" strips & squares I already had cut.


Week #29~ Mrs. Morgans Choice. I didn't care for the design of this block so I copied Kathie. Sometimes it seems like Quilter's Catch makes these blocks more difficult than they need to be by using all those little pieces when a larger piece would do just as well.


Week #28~ Envelope Motif. What's with that name? It look's like a star pattern of some sort. Shouldn't it be Star Something-or-other?


Week #27~Windmill 2. This was a smaller block so I used those bright fabrics for my grandbaby quilt. I've got some multi-colored polka dot fabric I will sash it with to tie the blocks together. Jackson is going to need sunglasses when he's laying on it.


Week #26~Z Cross. I actually did this block back in June but apparently I never posted it here. I was quite intrigued by the secondary pattern created with multiple blocks and actually put together a small wall hanging.


The wall hanging has a nice primative look to it so I am quilting it with that heavy perle cotton and using a big stitch. I've never tried that before and I'm having a heck of a time. I'm not sure how to bury the knots. I may do some machine quilting to finish it up because the heavy perle cotton stuff is a real pain to stitch with.

and Queen Charlotte's Crown. I have fabrics picked out for the other two blocks I'm missing, but probably won't get them sewn up 'til the weekend.

I'm finally doing a bit of catching up and the easiest was to do the 10" blocks since my plan was to make all the 10" blocks with the turquoise, mottled pink batik and the dark indigo floral outline fabrics. So at least I didn't have to spend time thinking about what fabrics to pick. I had to make a few modifications to these two blocks since the original patterns only called for 2 colours of fabric. Both went together fairly easily and visually are interesting. I think the next time there is another 10" block I will have to gather all of these blocks and take a picture of them to see how they look together.

By the way it's been quiet here at the FBP this weekend and for those who are not from Canada, it was a long weekend here so that probably in part explains the lack of activity over the last few days.

Week 30

Nice and easy this one! Decided to make a scrap block this time as I couldn't decide which colours to use and I already had a load of two and a half inch squares left over from another project.

Heather's 28 - 30

I've been a slacker because I've been distracted by another project. So I decided today to catch up with blocks 28, 29, 30. I decided to start with week 28 because that was an easy one.

I made every mistake possible and a few that were quite improbable. Made sections the wrong size? Check. Put together wrong? Check. You name it, I did it. I even had to go at one point and lay down in another room and count to 10 since it was dangerous for me to be around sharp objects in my current frame of mind.

So, I did the mature thing. I declared block #28 to be dead to me and moved on. We shall no longer speak the name.



I started using the mangled pieces of the block that shall not be named and made week 30. It went together with no problems whatsoever. I think it heard me cussing the previous block. Thank you very much.

Week 20 is the top block and it got fussy too. I had a hard time keeping things in order. There was a bit too much seam ripping for my taste. But I did learn something cool. One seam flying geese. It makes a 3D block. Here's the video. This only works on flying geese that are half as tall as they are wide. Yes, that was one of the many errors on that very naughty block.

Kathie's Week 30 - 70's retro

When I saw Hetty's block with the wonderful fabric choices, it reminded me of how lucky we are to have the variety of fabric styles available today. There are brights, reproductions, oriental, batiks, novelty, geometrics, I could go on and on. As a contrast to Hetty's block, I made mine using fabric left over from quilts I made in the late 70's. About the only choices then were calicos. Mine - kind of boring, Hetty's - engaging. I look forward to seeing the different styles of fabric we use this week.

Hearth and Home

I have finished this week's block. It was an easy, straight forward block and I am thankful for that! There is just too much going on around here today. I didn't like the cross in the middle of the block, so I tried to sort of camouflage it. I thought that a progression of colour from the inside to the outside of the block would make it resemble a sort of star burst, but I don't think I managed to do that. But that's okay. I like the block anyway.
