I Loved Making This Block

It went together rather nicely and I like the look to this block. I have already cut out some more of the pieces so we shall see what comes of this one.

Bright Sunny Day

This was a huge stretch for me, I am not even going to pretend it wasn't...BUT, unlike that first block that I ditched out on...the one with like 104 million little pieces...I decided to relax and try something harder since I am now mastering all the other blocks.

The parts of the sub units wobbled a little bit. I then made up some of QPs starch and that did the trick, so now I am addicted to starching pieces.

Over all, I love the affect! I can't help but feel bright and happy when I look at this block...

My man and his buddy "fishing" where we live...they caught nothing, but enjoyed the warm weather.

Queen's X's or Where is My Tiara?

So, this was a really fun block to make. I like the spring feel to it and would definitely do some more of these. It would make a elegant and very feminine quilt.

Leap Frog Fun

I had a lot of fun with this block and after I learned the pattern, provided some nice and stress free sewing.

This may become the center to a table runner...or a pillow..I haven't really decided yet.

Spring Time Candle Mat

This weeks block is destined to become a Spring time candle mat! I am going to bind it in hot pink and let it's light and the light from a Spring flavored candle brighten my dreary day.

I see all the young girls out there in blog land using A LOT of white and I really am impressed with that look, so I thought it might be nice to play around with some brights and white to see if worked for me as well.

I love how it's crisp, clean, and bright but still has a old school feel because of the piecing requirements.

Off to sew...it's going to be poring for the next two days and it's perfect weather to spend time with fabric and machine!

Civil War Claws

I had to giggle with myself as I looked at the finished block because even though this was relatively easy to me (now)...I don't think I could have had the same success a mere 10 weeks ago. I am a completely different quilter now and there are just not enough ways I can begin to thank each and every one of you...especially you, QP. Long live Friday Block Party.

Like another FBP member, I made way to many HSTs...so I seem to know have an HST stash building in progress. These will join my extra purple HSTs...wow, it's amazing how many sub stashes I have going on. The HSTs, the bits and pieces, the strips...more amazement.

I thought I would play around with some civil war fabric I got at the thrift store for less than the cost of a Starbucks Coffee...I have never had the pleasure of sewing with these kinds of prints before. They ironed very nicely and tended to stay right where I put them, so all in all...we got a long very nice and I will have them back out to play again soon.

Fancy a Baby Quilt

Had a great time making this block! It was peaceful and stress free. Just what I needed for today! Only 8 more blocks to go to make a cute baby girl quilt.

I will be back to the pinks and blacks after Easter.

No Insanity Here!

I had a lot of fun with this block and enjoyed making it so much. I would definitely make this block again, but did I miss something, was there no dimension for the center block? I just guessed based upon the other blocks after they were sitiched. Maybe I just missed it.

I Thank "My Lucky Stars"

I was nervous. I am big enough to admit it. All these little pieces and I am just now figuring out how to do a proper HST. But, lo and behold, I think this baby quilter is starting to toddle rather nicely!!!

Look, all my wonderful instructors!!! By George, I think she gets it! The corners wobbled a little bit, but ya know what? I am not complaining at all...LOOK AT THE HSTs! LOOK AT THE ALIGNMENT! It doesn't really show up, but I used three colors. I used two pinks and one black...I now think I might have chosen something to show more constrast...but this is definitely a keeper block!

Right beside it, is the wonderfully cheap little tool I must credit with my HST mastery. I got it last night as I ventured to quilt store HEAVEN...see my blog post for today. There is always a master instructor there to help with questions and issues. I had both...I normally do. She suggested the cheapest item (can you believe it?) and said it would help immensely...she showed me hw to use it and I went sailing from there.

Can you tell I am completely tickled. I may even go back an attempt last week's block now...maybe...

I may now understand HSTs.

I found this great video on Youtube (I learned how to crochet by way of Youtube) on how to make HSTs in the traditional sense. This helped so much and I am running to the store this coming weekend to grab these two very useful tools that she has shown.

I scrapped the block I was working on and just practiced keeping my points pointy and came up with this VERY creative and artsy block which I binded in red to make a mat for my little Valentine's Day decorations. I think it is so cute.

So, this block was not a waste at all. I am learning to deal with things that frustrate me and seeking answers. I thank you all for your words of encouragement and love. It means so much to me.

I will catch up on this current block next weekend, after my little trip to the quilt shop!!!

Way Over My Head!!!

I may attempt this block later on this weekend or I may skip this week's block altogether, which is not necessarily a bad thing...I might understand what I am doing if I had one of you here WITH me, but I am just getting frustrated...I haven't even pieced two rows and I lost all my points...

Where did they go? Into HST never, never land.

It may be with me, but I would really like to say that I do not like her instructions very much and I am not advanced enough to be able to figure it out on my own.

Aaarrrggghhhh!

Loving all of your blocks though...one day this puppy will be able to run with the big dogs.

Making SO much Progress!!!!

I was pleading with Quilt Pixie for something mindless involving maybe...strips, but she reminded me I really needed practice on HSTs and points...the HST and pointy God must have been with me today because this block is actually my favorite from a critical eye standpoint. I took my time and made sure things were meeting in all the right places. While I am not gonna say I have mastered HSTs...very far from that...I will shout out loud, that I think I finally have a working comprenhension!! Woo hoo.

Look at those four corners...they are all meeting up and being friends. I lost some points, but that will resolve itself eventually...I am not gonna stress about that right now.

I too can not believe that it has already been 5 weeks...I am still so excited to get to Friday and meet up with all of you. Have a great week everyone!

A Really Good Dream!

I really liked this block and would definitely do it again...it only got wobbly one time during strip sonstruction, but all in all...I think I like it a lot. Completed it measured at 10.5 inches. I am not bothered by the different sizes of the blocks because when it comes time to put them together, I am sure that you all will help me figure all that out. I just love coming here wach week and trying out different blocks. I really love the pinks and blacks together.

The Rotunda in Black and Pink

I had a fun time with this block and thought it turned out rather nicely...I am loving the continuation of the black and pinks.

I might do this one again without using fabric that has vertical and horizontal patterns as that is a little difficult for me to keep straight, but over all I really love how this block looks...kinda fun and funky.

I am so excited about the direction this quilt is going in...it will not only be special to my daughter, but a reminder of the special time I spent here every week.

It's all a learning process

Well, this week's block was a little bit more difficult for me than last week's, but here is the great thing...I am learning so much.

I have only been quilting for about 6 months or so, and while I am no way close to where I want to be...I do think I have made tremendous strides in what I have learned. I never knew what a UFO was, or that there was a bakery shop of fabric possibilities...jelly rolls, cinnamon buns, layer cakes...LOL...I didn't even know a charm square was 5"...and what was a rotary cutter, mat, and ruler...yeah Quilt Pixie might have a funny story about that one for you as I was still cutting everything out with SCISSORS.

All I knew is that I loved quilts and I love quilters!!!

So without further ado...here is Block #2...keeping the Black and Pink theme as I plan on making my oldest daughter a quilt for her graduation from college and to represent her sorority colors. It will be stitched with A LOT of love.
