I have been steaming away at my sewing machine this week, and it has paid off, because I am right up to date with all the blocks now, I just have to make the one that was loaded today. To say I have a BIG smile on my face is putting it mildly!!!!

Week #14 really challenged my piecing skills. I love the block but, gollleee geee, it sure was tedious. Keeping those little pieces turned the right direction required too much concentration.

Week #15 goes into the 8" pile with the brights for a future quilt for grandaughter Keira. That one was fun & easy.

Dakota Gold



This week's block was also pretty easy but I chose to do it in homespuns. Stretchy stuff!! I am getting better at sewing with that fabric and I love the old fashioned look. Doing an occassional block like this may be the only way I will ever get enough blocks done for an entire quilt.

Since I was away for 5 weeks, I actually have 4 more blocks to try. I will probably do them eventually but for now I'm considering myself caught-up.

Rebecca's Star, week 14

I made this a 12 1/2 inch block to go with the other busy star block.  I think the background fabric looks like little moon faces.  I was sorry to use it up!

All Caught Up

Between working to get my Harvest Sky quilt done before I left to go see my parents and then being down south visiting mom and dad I have gotten a little behind on my blocks. But not anymore. First I did this one. I was glad it was easy and went together quickly. This one was not so quick but I really like this block. I will do more of these in the future.

Last but not least I did this weeks block. I enjoyed using springy, Eastery fabrics.

I'm hoping it will help bring spring. It is snowing here again today. I would really like to get a few thing planted in my garden but the weather just does not want to cooperate.

Well, now I'm ready for Friday and another fun block party!

Kathie's Week 14

My plan for this block was to use it for a pillow for one of my step daughters. She's redone her living room with yellow walls and a rust/burgandy sofa. I had these fabrics in my stash and I thought they'd do well, but I think this pattern is just too busy for them. Oh, well. It just goes to show that sometimes what looks good on the worktable doesn't always translate well in the block. Maybe I'll try this same combination of fabric in another week's block to make something I like a little better. I think this block is very interesting and I especially liked the ones made this week with the bright clear colors.

Heather - Week 14

I like this pattern but keeping the colors straight was a challenge! I have all kinds of left over pieces from making the parts the wrong colors. I think this would be nice enlarged to medallion size as the center of a quilt.

Vicki's Week 14

Here's my block for week 14. It certainly turned out quite nice but I really don't like her instructions. At one point I really got confused and realized just look at the picture and figure it out, don't read what she has written. I'm not sure what I will do with this, but maybe put a pretty border around it and then it can be used as a place mat of sorts.

Quiltpixie's mistakes...

This was turning out so wonderfully, and then I looked closely and realized a couple of the subunits are turned the wrong way. Arg.

I've taken the block apart and am making a real mess of the reconstruction. double arg.

I've now pulled it apart even further, will press the pieces tomorrow and try re-assembling from basic units. Hopefully I can get the points back to pointy.

Floribunda catches up

I fell behind last week, but now I'm back -- here's my Queen's X, in batiks again. Nice and easy...And this week's Cathy's Star, which took way too much concentration to keep the colors in the right places! It didn't help that I printed out the pattern in black & white so I had to keep guessing at the instructions (I did eventually make some notes about which color was which) Anyway, it's definitely not perfect construction but I kind of like the concept. Judy Martin has a lot of patterns on this theme in her "Knockout Blocks" book.

Bright Sunny Day

This was a huge stretch for me, I am not even going to pretend it wasn't...BUT, unlike that first block that I ditched out on...the one with like 104 million little pieces...I decided to relax and try something harder since I am now mastering all the other blocks.

The parts of the sub units wobbled a little bit. I then made up some of QPs starch and that did the trick, so now I am addicted to starching pieces.

Over all, I love the affect! I can't help but feel bright and happy when I look at this block...

My man and his buddy "fishing" where we live...they caught nothing, but enjoyed the warm weather.

Hetty's Star

Here is my version of this week's block. I changed it a little in the bottom right hand corner. I didn't think the yellow star points showed up enough, so I put the dark blue around them. It wasn't exactly a difficult block, (at least not as hard as I thought it would be) but it was time consuming! I really like it though. I might try it again, (when I have time) putting only one star within the large star and leaving the bottom one out all together. I don't know. It might work.

So we start the 4th month, with a choice in our block... the directions are for either a 9" or 12" (assuming you're using the instructions on Quilter's Cache...)

Cathy's Star involves lots of points to match up. Guess I'll see if I've really improved in my abilities! :-) It also looks like the value/colour choices will make a big difference on which star you see :-)

Its been a while since we've worked with so many small pieces (59 of them I think) in the block. I think, given their size I'm off to make up a new batch of starch... Maybe I should just enlarge the pattern and use it as a table topper, doubling everything to make a 24" inch block would be almost sane :-)
