MORE BLOCKS DONE

My relaxation time is making these blocks.

Patch as Patch Can....WEEK 6......
what does that mean? These patches are put in so precisely to make the pattern, there seems to be no 'patch as can' about this block. Can you see I boobed on the dark fabric, I used the wrong side sometimes...Oh well!!

My Lucky Stars...WEEK 7
Oh yeah! With 69 pieces to this 8" - yes I stuck to that size crazy person -I cannot see anything 'lucky' in it, only how it went together - surprisingly easy!!

Morning Star 2 - WEEK 8
I really enjoyed making this little block, well 12" block, I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Fancy Stripes - WEEK 9
hmm more like cheaters Log Cabin really, this was sooo quick to make, it fairly flew through the sewing machine.

Bears Tracks... WEEK 10
A lovely block cos it is to do with Bears. I collect soft teddies or ornament's of bears so was very happy this was in the pack to make. Are they coming or going?

Chimneys & Cornerstones... WEEK 11
Not a lot to say of this cos it was another speedy one to make, love the secondary pattern you get when you link it with Courthouse Steps though. Nice one!

The Queen's X... WEEK 13
hee hee she was probably cross someone put those little triangles in her square!!!

Slowly but surely, I am catching up. Having fun whilst doing so too. :-)

Running in Place

I feel like such a slacker! I can't believe how easy it is to fall behind with these blocks. I've got waaayy too many projects going on but I don't seem to be actually finishing anything.





Here are weeks 9(Fancy Stripes), 11(Chimneys & Cornerstones), 12(Leap Frog), and 13(The Queen's X) all done using that scrap bin full of brights. I decided to make most of the blocks from now on from these fabrics and then add borders to make them all fit together for an eventual quilt for my granddaughter. I wasn't crazy about any of these blocks but they did go together fairly easily.


The 12" block from week#10 was Bear Tracks, a pattern I thought would look good done in those hard-to-work-with homespun fabrics. I've been making pillows from these and they look great on an old church pew I have. I find that the homespun fabric is getting a little easier to manage but I spray starch the heck out of it whenever I use it!

For a brief moment I was all caught up on FBP and then Spring Fever hit me and I fell behind again! Yard and house clean-up took center stage. At least the windows are clean so it's not so dark in the sewing room now! With a wild flurry of sewing today, I hope to finally get really and truly caught up so by next Friday I can do the block at a leisurely pace. Happy Mom's Day to all the moms in the party.

Block party times 12

I haven't been playing along with the weekly block party for several weeks due to ....well, just plain ole life. I have been sewing a bit -- here's my Chimney and Cornerstones block times 12 in blues and greens. I took the one I made for the block party ( top left corner) and kept going in greens and blues. I figured out the sashing strips to make a nine patch in the intersections. this is destined to become a baby blanket/quilt for the local children's hospital.

Crooked Chimney

I realized after I put this together part way that I wasn't using my 1/4" foot so it was all off. Then I couldn't find the right foot so I tried to fake it and it is all manner of crooked. My friend brought me this fabric today so I decided to use it.

Rebecca's Chimney

I just love all my blocks! These are all 10 inch blocks. I made one 12 inches accidently so I'm waiting for some more hard ones to make more 12 inch blocks. They are on dark blue, which is how I am going to set them together.

Thanks for letting me join the party late. I've enjoyed seeing everyone's interpretations of each week's block and am glad to be able to participate. I chose a cheerful blue to get started. The white-on-white really sets it off, but I must admit that I often find it hard to distinguish the front and back of WOW unless the lighting is really good. This block was no exception, I had to 'unsew' one seam. It wasn't the first, and won't be the last. I'm looking forward the weekly choices on Fridays.

Chimney's & Cornerstones Meets The Wild Side

Since Quilt Pixie mentioned that this block looked a lot like Rotunda that we did in January I decided to pull out my old blocks and have a look. Sure enough it did, so I re-sized this one to match the 9" Rotunda and brought out my wild fabric. Below is a picture of the Chimney's & Cornerstones block beside the Rotunda block.

scraps galore

I used up some previously pieced random strip fabric on some of the rectangles in this week's block. I like the visual texture and interest it gives...

Brenda with two versions of week 11

I made two versions of this one. First I started with my marbled fabric as a background, found some pink 2 inch squares, and a watercolour-y aqua. It's quite muted, and for some reason, a bit too big.

Then I looked in the two inch strip bin, couldn't find any strips that went together, and so I reached for some of the fabric sent to me by Tonya. I used four different fabrics in blues and greens to contrast with a bright white and I really like how it turned out. It's crisp and clean compared to the muted first one. The other thing I liked about this block is how easy it was to keep it to the right size -- if the next round of strips fit, then all was well. I could see making a whole quilt this way, although I might go fairly scrappy and just play with value.

Summer Anyone?

The fabric I chose from Ye Olde Scrappe Bagge turned out really summer flavored - like ice cream. Good sashing practice on this block... lots of square-meets-square corners.

See What Happens When You're High on Drugs and Can't Sleep!

I couldn't sleep last night! The pain in my legs was the worst it's been for a long time. I took a total of 4 percocet tablets and I was still wide awake. So I went rummaging around in my scrap bin. Doesn't everyone do that when they can't sleep? I pulled out some fabrics and made another chimneys and cornerstones block. And this is what happened!

Spring Time Candle Mat

This weeks block is destined to become a Spring time candle mat! I am going to bind it in hot pink and let it's light and the light from a Spring flavored candle brighten my dreary day.

I see all the young girls out there in blog land using A LOT of white and I really am impressed with that look, so I thought it might be nice to play around with some brights and white to see if worked for me as well.

I love how it's crisp, clean, and bright but still has a old school feel because of the piecing requirements.

Off to sew...it's going to be poring for the next two days and it's perfect weather to spend time with fabric and machine!

Em's blocks 10 and 11

I finally found a few spare minutes to sew. So I got started on the blocks. I was behind from last week so I did the bear paws first. The background is really a light blue but is is reading white here. I thought this was a fun block. I have always liked the bear paw. One of my first quilts was a bear paw quilt. I like it in the bright colors. Then I got started on Chimney's and Cornerstones. This one reminds me of Easter. It was quick and easy. Such a great bonus.

A Chimney Sweep of my Scrap Bin

As soon as I saw this week's block I wanted to start it right away! I have alot of other things I should be doing, but any excuse to put the tedious things off for later gets my vote!

It was an easy block. and didn't take long to make. Sifting through my scrap bin for suitable fabrics took the longest! I decided on reds because I have not used many reds in any of the blocks to date. That may not have been a good idea since they will not go with any of the blocks I have made so far. But maybe if I do some more red ones in the future, they will be okay. I don't have many light coloured fabrics in my scrap bin, so I used what was handy. The cat prints fabric was right beside my machine from an earlier project and the dark outside fabric was also not from my scrap bin. I had bought that a long time ago. It is a very flimsy cotton and I really don't like it much, but it looks okay in the block. I found a lot more fabric that would be great for this block. I might make another in another colour.

week 11

No worries here folks. It might be Friday the 13th, but I picked a good block, honest.... This week's block is a twelve inch block.... Chimney's and Cornerstones.

Surprising as it is to believe I was actually disappointed that this week's block was all squares and rectangles! I must be coming down with a fever to not be rejoicing...

The block itself reminds me a lot of Rotunda block back in January. That one was only a 9 inch, so I may resize this one to make it the same finished size and use the two as a pair. Guess the first thing to do is hunt down the rotunda block in the pile and see if I like the colours :-)
