I'M STILL HERE

Bet you all thought I had forgotten about these blocks. No way! I have been a bit busy on other things. I am now in catch up mode again. I pulled a load of fabric from the cupboard at cut it into strips which I thought were the most popular sizes used for these blocks and have been gaily chopping away. Here are the results so far....

You may notice slight differences in my blocks and the printed ones on Quilter's Cache, I just decided I would do them a quicker way from some of the instructions given!!! Oops! Sometimes I went wrong too! Oh well, can't be helped, I am getting there though...off I go to make more of the backlog blocks.

Running in Place

I feel like such a slacker! I can't believe how easy it is to fall behind with these blocks. I've got waaayy too many projects going on but I don't seem to be actually finishing anything.





Here are weeks 9(Fancy Stripes), 11(Chimneys & Cornerstones), 12(Leap Frog), and 13(The Queen's X) all done using that scrap bin full of brights. I decided to make most of the blocks from now on from these fabrics and then add borders to make them all fit together for an eventual quilt for my granddaughter. I wasn't crazy about any of these blocks but they did go together fairly easily.


The 12" block from week#10 was Bear Tracks, a pattern I thought would look good done in those hard-to-work-with homespun fabrics. I've been making pillows from these and they look great on an old church pew I have. I find that the homespun fabric is getting a little easier to manage but I spray starch the heck out of it whenever I use it!

For a brief moment I was all caught up on FBP and then Spring Fever hit me and I fell behind again! Yard and house clean-up took center stage. At least the windows are clean so it's not so dark in the sewing room now! With a wild flurry of sewing today, I hope to finally get really and truly caught up so by next Friday I can do the block at a leisurely pace. Happy Mom's Day to all the moms in the party.

I really liked Kathie's block so I mimicked it. I like the way it looks like flowers. And after having snow all week, I wanted some flowers.

Frogs on Surfboards???

Well, here's my "leapfrog"... Vicki and I were talking, and she said she couldn't find any frog fabric in her stash. I said I thought I had some - and sure enough, I had a scrap from something Erin made (I think). Not my usual colors or style (way brighter!), but I like it.

After all, what would Leap Frog be without the FROGS!!???

Leaping Lizards!

I decided to make the Leap Frog block with lizard fabric to make it Leaping Lizards. I bought a new real 1/4" foot this morning so the size is a lot better.

A Frog in my Throat!

After having spent the past three days in bed, I decided enough was enough. I still haven't found my voice yet though. Haven't had laryngitis since my working days in the classroom. I wonder if it has anything to do with this week's block? Probably not!

I was feeling a bit better this morning and decided to tackle the block. I can't say that I found it easy. I didn't like having to cut those two corner blocks. And on top of that I 'frogged' my seams several times. I am blaming that on the block too. I had some cute frog fabric, but didn't know how to cut into it to get the frogs in the right place on the block. It was too much for my aching head. So I used some batik fabrics and sewed it together. It came out rather green! I know frogs are green, but I can't really blame this on the block! It's kind of the way I feel.

As soon as I placed it on the floor to take a photo, Mimi and Oscar came over for a game of leap frog! Clever cats!

Leap Frog Fun

I had a lot of fun with this block and after I learned the pattern, provided some nice and stress free sewing.

This may become the center to a table runner...or a pillow..I haven't really decided yet.

I like this block a lot! It reminds me of "hither and yon", which also combines several different elements in a single block -- although this one is easier...

This was an interesting block to make -- not sure I'm really keen on it, but I'm really noticing my precision improving as it went together so easily and ended up the right size and square without any "fudging" :-)

I found the technique for making the "X" corners a little different. Might use it again, though I think I'd prefer to use that technique when there was a clear centre point to measure the square from! :-)

Leap Froggin' Into Spring

Here's my leap frog block. I was quite amazed at how well this came together given that some of this piecing I have never done - the X sections - I don't know if they have a technical term or not. So the Friday Block Party is really paying off when even new techniques are working out. I still had to use starch because the yellow fabric wasn't as tight of a weave as the batiks and was prone to stretching. My block came out to the proper size in the end so I'm pleased with the result.

Kathie's Week 12 block

I have to admit when I first saw the block for the week, I wasn't sure that I liked it. But then, after looking it for a bit, what I saw in the block was not a 'leap frog' but a flower bud. Since it was the first day of spring, I decided to try to make the block 'bloom.' I really like the result. It just goes to show that a first impression of a block shouldn't be your last - use your imagination! Happy National Quilting Day!!
